Councillor brands fly-tipping outside flats a 'disgrace'

A councillor has urged residents to report fly-tipping in a bid to stop piles of waste building up on our streets.

Labour's Gerry Convery has branded a picture of dozens-upon-dozens of rubbish bags strewn across a car park in Denholm Crescent in East Kilbride as "absolutely disgusting".

The mountain of rubbish has since been lifted by South Lanarkshire Council, but locals say it accumulated for weeks with a toilet and cistern even among the waste.

Councillor Convery - who has previously slammed fly-tipping in nearby Telford Road in The Murray - told Lanarkshire Live: "It is nothing but a disgrace.

Councillor Convery has previously hit out at fly-tipping elsewhere in The Murray (East Kilbride News)

"I am on the phone sometimes on a daily basis regarding fly-tipping.

"I had a meeting with senior officers three weeks ago regarding this type of situation with a view to see what action we can take to stop this disgraceful behaviour.

"There is no way if it had been brought to my attention would it be left like that for the length of time described.

"I would appeal to people not to fly-tip and use the bins provided to them and use the special uplift service for bigger Items.

"The council are inundated with calls to clear up the mess that selfish individuals leave it is not an acceptable way to act. Please help keep our areas clean and tidy."
