Council workers have painted double yellow lines around parked cars in this Welsh town

Council contractors painting double yellow lines in a Welsh town might think about putting bollards down first in future.

Bizarrely, workmen in Aberystwyth tasked with putting down new road markings didn't do that - and so had to contend with parked cars on the streets they had been paid to paint.

And their solution - to just paint around parked cars - has been met with ridicule.

Some of the double yellow markings are just a foot long as they were squeezed between parked cars.

Hotelier John Evans said no one was told that road marking would be taking place.

He said: "The first thing we knew was white lines appeared on the road.

"Now we know that's where the council wanted the lines to go, but we weren't told it would happen.

"It's a complete farce."

The calamitous attempt comes just weeks after a video emerged of a similar bodge job on a street less than a mile away.

Filmed by local resident Steve Clark, the funny footage shows the trickle of paint around a car parked in the way of the council worker's painting.

Ceredigion Council has been asked to comment.
