Council worker filmed flooring man in street brawl after allegedly being attacked in Midlothian

Midlothian Council chiefs are investigating an incident after a council worker was caught on camera involved in a street brawl after a man allegedly attacked his van.

Passers by watched on in shock after the fight kicked off on the pavements of the Main Street, in Dalkeith, on Monday.

Police Scotland are also investigating the incident. (PA)

In the clip, a man dressed in a black jacket and shorts aggressively approached the council worker, who brought him to the ground.

A few seconds later he tries to attack the short-haired council worker again, who is wearing a green fleece.

A Midlothian Council van can also been seen stopped in the road on Dalkeith's Main Street, while another council worker stood by the open passenger door as car horns blare.

The scrap comes to an end when the man who was knocked to the ground gets up walks away with his mate and the worker jumps back in the van with his colleague.

Locals claim the fight started after two men threw a bottle at the council van and started punching the window.

The 59-second clip, was shared on social media but has since been removed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland was made aware of a disturbance on Dalkeith High Street shortly before midday on Monday, 15 June.

"The incident was not ongoing when police attended and enquiries remain ongoing."

While a spokesman for Midlothian Council said: "We are aware of the incident and are investigating the circumstances of it."
