Council warns of missed bin collections after snow in Wigan

Wigan residents have been warned that some bin collections could be missed today (Thursday).

Adverse weather conditions across the borough, including snow and ice, have stopped some lorries from reaching people's homes.

Anyone who has not had their bin collected is advised to leave it out until pickups can be rearranged.

A spokesman for Wigan council said staff had struggled to reach homes because of the weather conditions.

In a tweet, they said: "Our waste crews have tackled very challenging conditions this week.

"Unfortunately, due to today's weather, collections may be limited.

"Please leave your bins out as usual and we will get to them as soon as we can."

Collections were also cancelled on Monday following another night of snowfall which created problems on roads around the borough.

The Met Office has not forecast any more snow over the coming days but temperatures are expected to remain low.

Highs will only reach 2C today and will drop below 0C during the night, forecasters predict.
