Council bosses have vowed to block a controversial £42 million cycle lane through Notting Hill and Holland Park after a celebrity-backed revolt .

Kensington and Chelsea council told Transport for London to reconsider plans amid concerns from hundreds of residents over their impact on business and traffic.

Almost 6,000 people have also signed a petition opposing the loss of 19 trees, which has been backed by The Grand Tour star Jeremy Clarkson .

The plans would create the first protected two-way cycle route between Wood Lane and Notting Hill Gate, via Holland Park Avenue.

Dr Will Norman, London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner said he was “disappointed” by the decision.

“I thought they would have wanted to know all the facts first.”
