Council urged to remove 'obscene' graffiti from Marine Lake

People are not happy after 'obscene' graffiti was daubed across parts of a local Merseyside landmark.

Racist and offensive graffiti is said to have appeared around Marine Lake in Southport last week.

One resident tweeted Sefton Council yesterday: "I noticed this enormous graffiti under the marine way bridge last week and surprisingly it was still there this morning.

"Plenty more around the area also. Given that it’s so offensive, are there any plans to clear it up?"

Images of the vandalism depict racial slurs against black people, and sexual symbols, along with vulgar language.

The graffiti stretches from under the bridge to the park, and beside the lake.

A spokesman for Sefton Council said: "As soon as we are made aware of any racial or obscene graffiti on council property, we aim to have it removed as soon as possible.

"We continue to work closely with a range of partners to tackle issues of graffiti, litter and vandalism in our beautiful parks and greenspaces.

"To report any cleansing concerns visit www.sefton.gov.uk or call 0345 140 0845."
