Council to prosecute after 50-tonne dump left in city

Liverpool City Council is looking to prosecute whoever is behind a more-than 50-tonne tip that has been dumped in the city.

Council staff have been working to clear the enormous dump that has been left in the Kirkdale area. Images show a giant pile of tyres, furniture, mattresses and other items that have been piled up on land at Dunnett Street and Brunswick Place.

The local authority said that more than 50 tonnes has already been cleared, but that work will be ongoing into the weekend to finish the clearance.

A tweet from the council said: "Clearance of a major fly tipping incident is now underway at Dunnett Street/Brunswick Place in Kirkdale. The job will be completed this weekend."

The city council is now actively looking to prosecute those behind the dumping. A spokesperson said: "Thanks to CCTV, the council is pursuing prosecution & fines against four individuals."

The council has urged others to report fly-tipping when they find it around the city. To report dumps click here.
