Council to lease offices to Glasgow Life

Glasgow City Council could benefit from almost £250,000 a year if they lease part of Commonwealth House to local authority organisations.

A proposal submitted to the property and contracts committee suggests the council rent the fourth, ground and basement floors at 18, 32, 34 and 28 Albion Street to Glasgow Life whose offices at 220 High Street will be occupied by the Scottish Government.

Over the next 15 years the council is expected to collect £209,000 in rent annually from the charity.

A further £39,880 will be collected each year from the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership who also intend to lease the ground floor at 30 Albion Street from the council for 15 years.

A report states: “This move arises under the city centre review which is intended to make more efficient use of the Council’s existing estate and reduce costs.

“The space vacated by Glasgow Life in 220 High Street will be occupied by Scottish Government who will meet rent and service charge payments for that space, reducing overall costs to the council.”
