Council tax in Glasgow set to rise by nearly 5% in April

Council tax rates in Glasgow are set to go up by nearly 5% after Glasgow City Council passed its budget for 2020/2021.

The 4.64 % increase comes after the SNP administraton struck a deal with councillors from the Scottish Greens.

The budget includes for proposed revenue savings of over £25m, with potential savings of £7.6m identified for social work services and £3m to waste collection as reports the BBC.

The budget includes for the introduction of a bulk waste collection charge, with the council also proposing the closure of Blairvadach Outdoor Education Centre in Helensburgh, where many Glasgow pupils go to undertake outdoor activities.

Meanwhile, as part of the proposals, many venues and spaces in the city ran by Glasgow Life would also be transferred to "local community management".

The 4.64 % increase is close to the maximum 4.8% allowed by the Scottish Government.
