Council still hope to honour Wishaw golden wedding couples

Having been forced to cancel the annual golden weddings reception last year, couples celebrating 50 years of marriage in 2020 may still have their special anniversary acknowledged by the council.

Each year, the provosts of North and South Lanarkshire usually host a tea-dance and celebration for couples who tied the knot half a century ago, but this was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Provost Jean Jones said: “This is usually a very well-attended and enjoyable occasion but obviously it was something which couldn’t take place because of the health pandemic.

“I’m sure many couples would have been looking forward to their opportunity to attend the celebration event, so as a small gesture, we would like to offer each couple a small token to commemorate their many happy years together.

“We know how difficult this past year has been for everyone and hopefully we can look forward to better times ahead.”

Couples should apply by email to lamondi@northlan.gov.uk with a copy of their marriage certificate, or in writing with a copy of their marriage certificate to: North Lanarkshire Council, Golden Wedding Application, Civic Centre, Motherwell, ML1 1AB.

The closing date is February 28, 2021, and is only open to those who live in North Lanarkshire.
