Council seeks expert advice on what to do about Dun Laoghaire Harbour

A tender process for expert advice on what to do with Dun Laoghaire Harbour has been opened just months after controversial plans for a €30m berth were withdrawn.

Ownership of the harbour was transferred to Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council late last year.

Since then, several proposals for what to do with the harbour have been rejected.

The council is now seeking expert advice on the "development of the harbour for the benefit of its citizens”.

A separate tender is also seeking economic and strategic advice on the development of Dun Laoghaire town centre.

The local authority said: “In recent times, development in the town has been largely focused on increasing residential capacity with a consequential decrease in the amount of small-scale commercial office floor space available for employment uses locally and a reduction in the overall number of jobs located within the town."

The request for tenders will remain open until Tuesday, September 17.
