Council seeks 300 men and 100 shovels

The local council looks like it will spend its summer preparing for another severe winter.

Edinburgh's environmental services chiefs have posted an advert seeking a "multi-supplier framework" of contractors to to shift snow and ice from pavements and roads.

Among the requirements for the emergency response work are 300 men, four JCBs and 100 shovels, brushes and picks. Up to five firms will be required for the four-year contract, starting from September. See the contract notice in full here.

Last winter was Edinburgh's most severe on record since the 1960s.
