Council chiefs look set to head to the courts to remove Travellers camped near an Irvine primary school.
A fleet of caravans pitched up beside Somerville Park in Lawthorn on Tuesday – with chickens, dogs and a horse in tow.
The land is flanked by trees but is in close proximity to housing and Lawthorn Primary and is used by pupils going to and from the school.
Lawthorn head teacher Sandie Grossart advised parents of the camp's presence in a blanket text message sent out at lunchtime on Tuesday.
Police have visited the camp and Ayrshire Live understands a notice was issued for the Travellers to leave the area within 24 hours.
Residents complained of generators running through the night with allegations made of anti-social behaviour.
However, the Travellers remain on site today and North Ayrshire Council is now seeking a court order to force them out.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "We are aware of this encampment and visited it with Police Scotland yesterday morning.

“The site is unsuitable for an encampment given its close proximity to Lawthorn Primary School and housing.
"As such, we are in the process of initiating legal action through the courts with the purpose of seeking a court order to remove the encampment from the area.”
