Sefton Council has responded to the appointment of a new commissioner to help turn around its troubled children’s services.
Paul Boyce has been appointed as the new commissioner responsible for Sefton Council's children’s services following a review carried out by previous commissioner Paul Moffat, which was released last month.
Mr Moffat said that while improvements were being made at Sefton children’s services, these were not coming quickly enough.

However, Mr Moffat held back from recommending the council relinquish control of the service, which received an inadequate Ofsted rating following an inspection carried out earlier this year.
Instead, he recommended the appointment of a new commissioner to oversee the service, a recommendation accepted by the government, which released a directive announcing Mr Boyce’s appointment yesterday.
Sefton Council told the ECHO it welcomes the new commissioner, who had also recently been appointed as chair of its improvement board.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “We welcome the appointment of a new commissioner, Paul Boyce who will work with us to provide support, guidance and challenge as we continue on our improvement journey
“We have already established a robust and positive working relationship with Paul as he is currently the independent chair of the Children’s Improvement Board here in Sefton.
“He will continue as chair alongside this new position and we look forward to working with him to give Sefton children and young people the services they deserve.”
