Wirral Council are reconsidering the sale of a school's old playing field to a local vehicle hire company, after the sale was rejected last year.
A report published earlier this month revealed that West Wallasey Car and Van Hire (WWCVH) have made another attempt to purchase the old playing fields attached to The Mosslands School in Wallasey. A similar attempt by WWCVH to purchase the green space was thrown out last year amid concerns over flooding and building on green space.
In their new report, the Council's Economy, Regeneration and Housing committee recommended the sale of the land, which is "currently unmaintained and underused" and has not been used by Mosslands for decades, for £150,000, as well as another £3,000 to pay for the council's legal costs. If sold, a majority of the current green space will be converted into parking spaces.

The current proposal does not involve any concrete, and the parking spaces will be made from permeable grasscrete paving, which the ECHO understands will allow for better drainage and will allow some meadow grass to grow on the land still. WWCVH has also proposed to surround the space in new trees and to create a path around the edge of the space.
The company wants the land to expand its operation currently based at multiple sites across the Wirral. They say the sale will allow the business to base all of their operations at the single site.

The report also said that if their expansions plans are delivered, it could potentially lead to the creation of 300 new "highly skilled jobs" in the area as the company will be able to make a "major new investment" in the area.
The sale was to be discussed by councillors at a meeting on Monday, June 13, however due to "technical difficulties" it is now due to be debated on Wednesday, July 20.
The ECHO approached West Wallasey Car and Van Hire for comment.
EDIT: A previous version of this article mistakenly included a caption identifying Mosslands School's current playing fields as the green space that is being reconsidered for sale. This has now been rectified.
