Council pledge to have all bins collected after weather caused delays

West Lothian Council say they aim to have all residents' bins collected by the weekend.

The extreme weather conditions over recent days meant bin crews could not get access to some areas and collections had to be postponed.

The council have thanked people for their patience and say they are working hard to correct the situation.

They have set a target date to meet all outstanding collections by January 10.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The recent severe weather over the Festive holiday period has led to a delay in bin collections for a number of areas in West Lothian.

“Our dedicated crews have been working hard over the last few days and have already cleared much of the backlog. We aim to have all outstanding collections emptied by Sunday January 10, barring disruptions caused by further severe weather.

“Local residents should leave their bins out until they are emptied, and are thanked for their understanding at this time.”

Meanwhile, the council have also confirmed that recycling centres will remain open under the Scottish Government’s latest restrictions.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We would like to confirm that Community Recycling Centres will remain open as usual during this time.

“All five Recycling Centres are open seven days a week from 10am - 6pm (last entry 5.45pm).

“Cars with trailers and vans will still need to book https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/vansandtrailers

“Please check the website for site rules and for the materials that are currently being accepted https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/local-recycling-centres.

“When you park, you will have access to two skips, one for bagged waste and one for bulky waste, a separate area for electricals recycling is also available.

“Bulky and bagged waste is sorted for recycling by our contractors off site.”
