A senior council official is set to be investigated by his local authority after a man was allegedly caught taking photographs of teenage girls on board a train from Glasgow.
British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an investigation following reports that a man was seen taking pictures of a group of girls aged 16 and 17 on a train travelling from Glasgow Central to Lanark on Saturday, July 4.
Footage shared with our sister title the Glasgow Times appears to show a fellow passenger confronting the man after noticing him taking a series of photographs of the teenagers.
The video then shows other passengers becoming involved before removing the man's phone.
They appear to discover multiple images of the girls, along with photographs of other passengers, on the device.
The footage has since been widely shared on social media.
The Glasgow Times understands the man is a senior official at Edinburgh City Council.
A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: "Whilst we do not comment on individual colleagues, we're aware of this incident and will investigate."
British Transport Police confirmed officers are investigating and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
