Council makes permanent change to Bristol bin collections

A big change to bin collections in Bristol is being introduced to ensure recycling targets in the city are met.

Residents are being asked to have their bins and recycling boxes ready for collection before 6am rather than 7am.

Bristol City Council says this change is coming into effect so Bristol continues to hit its recycling targets.

Throughout the summer months collections have started from 6am instead of 7am and the council has decided to make this a permanent change.

The council says collection crews will have more time to get round all properties and this will lead to less missed collections and less congestion on the roads.

Councillor Steve Pearce, cabinet member with responsibility for waste and recycling, said: “As Bristol recycles more and wastes less we are asking residents to present their bins and boxes an hour earlier all year round.

“We are proud of all the work being done across the city to reduce waste and increase recycling, but we know there is always more that can be done.

“The new time of 6am has been working well throughout the summer, with very few complaints from residents about noise from collection crews.

“I would like to thank Bristol residents for supporting our efforts to recycle more and waste less.”
