Council launch investigation after high school's Twitter is targeted by porn hackers

An investigation has been launched after a Lanarkshire high school’s Twitter feed was ambushed with pornography.

Taylor High in Motherwell have since deleted their account after it showed retweets of several hardcore images and videos of people having sex.

North Lanarkshire Council say they are investigating the matter and reviewing further security measures. They also apologised for the offensive material.

The hackers posted images of naked women as well as raunchy pornographic scenes.

One post appeared straight after a genuine retweet from the school about Catholic Education Week, leaving followers and users of the social media platform shocked.

“Taylor High Twitter having an absolute nightmare there”, wrote one user.

Another said: “Taylor High School retweeting porn has the be the highlight of my day”.

“Taylor High has fallen”, read another tweet.

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “We immediately took action as soon as we were made aware that a school social media account had been compromised and offensive material posted.

“The inappropriate material was removed and we apologise for any offence caused.

“We have taken immediate steps to investigate the security breach and will install further appropriate security measures.”
