Dog owners have been warned to be vigilant when walking their pets in public spaces, in the wake of poisoned meat being found in a suburban Adelaide park.
Local veterinary surgery Vets 4 Pets wrote on Facebook on Monday that kidneys that had been sliced open, stuffed with bait and stitched closed were found along the River Torrens Linear Park at Dernancourt, in the city's north-east.
A Dernancourt resident reported the baited kidneys, which were found about 1.5 metres off the park pathway.
The City of Tea Tree Gully confirmed the find and warned owners to "be cautious if walking dogs in the area".
On Monday afternoon, South Australia Police also confirmed they were investigating the incident.
City of Tea Tree Gully councillor, Peter Field, said: "People should not change enjoying the River Torrens Linear Park because of this behaviour."
"Please maintain appropriate supervision of your dogs," he said.
"Exercise care and keep enjoying this amazing space."
The suspected dog baiting follows a similar incident in Torrensville, in Adelaide's west, in July.
In response, the City of West Torrens erected warning signage and installed 24-hour video surveillance to deter any potential baiters.
