Council give go ahead for new flats to be built of former Cambusnethan play area

Planning permission has been granted to build new flats in Cambusnethan.

North Lanarkshire Council planners have given the green light to build the homes in on vacant ground east of Eastmuir Street.

The land, the majority of which was formerly a play area, has now been cleared of equipment and trees and fenced off from the street.

The two-storey L-shaped block will contain eight flats (six two bedroom flats and two one bedroom homes) of which the four groundfloor units would be wheelchair accessible.

In his report, NLC case officer Keith Bathgate stated: “When permission was granted for the new houses at Fruin Drive in 1995 it was required to be provided as an equipped play area.

“Unfortunately, rather than dividing ownership amongst the new houses and arranging maintenance through a factor, the housebuilder retained ownership of the site and it was subsequently sold at auction when the housebuilder went out of business.

“The current proposed development is considered acceptable in terms of the development plan.”
