Council get tough on Ayrshire fly-tipping hotspot as alleged dumpers hit in the pocket

North Ayrshire Council is cracking down on a fly-tipping hotspot in Kilwinning by hitting alleged dumpers in the pocket.

Three fixed penalties have been issued recently after enforcement officers acted on complaints about the eyesore in Longford Avenue.

Now the council is calling on landowners to play their part in ridding the area of the problem by keeping private land tidy.

A spokesperson said: "We are aware of the issue in Longford Avenue, with multiple volumes of waste being deposited on private land.

“Our enforcement team have made contact with the land owners to remind them of their obligations regarding waste management and have also issued three Fixed Penalty Notices to alleged offenders.

“We would urge anyone with information to please get in touch and we will investigate thoroughly."

Longford Avenue has been plagued by abandoned rubbish with angry local residents uploading pictures of the mess on social media.

One outraged poster said: "Why pack your vehicle up and go driving about looking for places to dump your crap instead of just driving to the dump? Defeats me."

Another added: "It's terrible the amount of rubbish dumped along country roads.

"I regularly cycle along the road from the bottom of the industrial estate to Stevenson and every time I go along it there is more rubbish dumped. Why do people need to do this?"

To report environmental crimes such as fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling, contact North Ayrshire's enforcement team on (01294) 310 000.

The spokesperson added: "“Fly-tipping is a crime which we take very seriously and we are determined to reduce the impact this has on communities across North Ayrshire.

“Our environmental enforcement team regularly patrol hotspots and issue fixed-penalty notices."
