Council considering big screen event for GAA fans who can't get tickets for the All-Ireland Final between Dublin and Kerry

Dublin City Council are considering erecting a big screen for a public showing of Dublin's All-Ireland final clash with Kerry.

Although no decision or plan has been made, a source has said options are currently being considered.

Many councillors have today called on the council to erect a screen in Smithfield as the Blues look to make history against their old foes Kerry.

The city centre spot would be most likely to host any event should it go ahead - although one councillor is also calling on GAA bosses to work with DCC and open up Parnell Park.

The home of Dublin GAA would be ideal according to Christy Burke who's idea has been backed by many fan groups.

"We'd love to get screens up and have a family day atmosphere.

"Bring in the clowns and a band and we could charge entry to raise money for charity.

"You'd be on the ground of where they Dubs train, and it's the home for many."

Local Councillor Mannix Flynn spoke in support of Smithfield being the venue and called

He said: "A lot of people can't get into Croke Park, or the Mansion House, and even people who have very little interest in the GAA want to be part of this and the celebrations. That's what people are saying to me.

"You're going to have a vast amount of Kerry people who don't have a ticket, who want to be in the atmosphere in the city for this event. The council should be announcing this and inviting everybody."

The All Ireland Football Final will take place at 3:30pm on Sunday, September 1 in Croke Park.
