Council bosses say they hope resolution on Deans South will be found soon

West Lothian Council said it is continuing to work to find a positive solution that will lead to the redevelopment of the whole Deans South estate.

The council executive heard an update of the work taking place to resolve the complex and challenging situation.

Phase one of the redevelopment has already been completed, delivering 54 new homes for rent in the area.

Only 10 properties now remain
in private ownership at the Livingston estate and the council approved a new financial offer in June for all the owners.

This was an additional £17,000 on top of the market value of their homes, as well as a £1700 payment for owners who live on the estate to help them move home.

None of the owners have accepted the council’s revised offer, although two have indicated they may consider it.

All the properties at Deans South are required to allow the area to be redeveloped with social housing.

The council said it will continue to engage with owners with a further report due to the executive in spring 2020.

They hope that agreement can be reached to ensure that a compulsory purchase order is not required.
