West Lothian Council is looking for local residents to have their say over potential projects to improve the local environment and make it safer for exercise.
Money is available for projects from the £10 million Spaces for People programme, which offers funding and support to local authorities to make it safer for people who choose to walk, cycle or wheel for essential trips and exercise during Covid-19.
Council officers are currently looking at potential projects around West Lothian and are looking for the views of the public on potential projects from their local area.
The main aims of the funding are to: provide temporary walking and cycling infrastructure that helps to protect public health and focus on essential journeys such as to hospitals, health services, shops, pharmacies and areas used for exercise.

Executive councillor for the environment Tom Conn said: “We would like to hear from local residents on their ideas for improving their local area.
“The impact of coronavirus means many of us are driving less and walking and cycling more, which changes the way we use our local spaces.
“Council officers will use your responses to help decide on which projects to put forward for funding from Sustrans, who are managing the programme for the Scottish Government.
“Possible ideas could include creating new cycle routes or widening pavement to improve use and allow social distancing. We hope to make sure West Lothian gets a fair share of this money, which will deliver improvements that benefit our communities at this time.”
Please note that the funding is limited, so it will not be possible to progress every idea put forward.
Any successfully projects would have clearly demonstratable short-term benefit for local residents, without having any long-term negative impact to the road network.
