Council are assessing structural damage to school after trailer ploughed into it

South Lanarkshire Council are assessing the structural damage to Uddingston Grammar after a trailer ploughed into the building.

Police were called to the scene this morning after a vehicle crashed into the side of the school.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “We can confirm a trailer unfortunately came loose from a vehicle as it was leaving Uddingston Grammar this morning.

“Then incident happened around 8am, and no pupils or staff were on school grounds. The school is open as normal.

“The car park has been closed and parents have been made aware.

“The structural damage is currently being assessed.”

Officers raced to the scene at 8.22am following reports that a trailer had smashed into the brickwork near the drop-off point.

No-one was injured and the driver was treated for shock.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At 8.22am police attended Uddingston Grammar after reports of a vehicle hitting the school building.

“The driver was treated at the scene for shock but no-one was injured.

“Police are still at the scene and enquiries are still on going.”

Uddingston Grammar also took to Twitter. They said: “No access to school car park until further notice. School open as normal to pupils.

“Please text your children to make alternative arrangements for collection at the end of the school day.”
