Glasgow councillors have backed the £16,000 sale of land at Community village for Springburn Park gets green lightto a housing association for a children’s play area.
Home in Scotland Ltd will take over the 400 sq m site, which borders a social housing development, when the sale is completed.
Councillor, Graham Campbell, who represents Springburn and Robroyston, objected to the transaction.

However, the sale was recommended for approval by council officers and was backed by members of Glasgow City Council’s Contracts and Property Committee on Thursday.
A council officer said: “Councillor Campbell raised a number of questions in relation to the valuation of the property, a number of planning issues were raised, questions around community engagement and he had a number of issues with the planning association involved.”
The officer said the councillor had received a full response to his concerns. But, despite a number of meetings, he did not withdraw his objection.

Building a children’s play park was one of the conditions attached when the housing association received planning permission for the housing scheme.
A report to the committee said: “Home in Scotland Ltd is planning to develop the site for a children’s play park, which will bring an area of vacant land back into beneficial use.
“The play park proposal will lead to a beneficial increase in social activity in the area.”
It adds that if Home in Scotland failed to provide the children’s play area, they would be in breach of planning control.
In this situation, the Council would be able to take enforcement action against the housing association.
The housing development is made up of 40 flats.
