Christmas comes early for West Lothian school children this year after the council’s Education Executive added two days onto the holiday as it agreed revised dates for the rest of this year.
The current school year started four days earlier than previously agreed in West Lothian, with all schools in Scotland starting back on August 11.
Following consultation on how to allocate the additional four days holiday it has been agreed to: add an additional day to the October break, so pupils will return on Wednesday, October 21, 2020; begin the Christmas break two days early, so pupils will finish for the holidays on December 18 2020; and add an additional day to the February break so pupils will return on Thursday, February 18 2021.
All other dates for the 2020/21 are unchanged for pupils.
In-service days for staff take place on: Tuesday, October 20, 2020; Tuesday, January 5, 2021 and Thursday, May 6, 2021.
For the new school year starting next August, pupils will return Tuesday, August 17, 2021, before finishing up on Friday, September 17, 2021. Following the September break, pupils return on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 until Friday, October 8, 2021.
The October holiday week takes place from Monday, October 11, 2021, with pupils returning on Tuesday, October 19. The term finishes on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
Pupils resume on Thursday, January 6, 2022 and finish on Friday, February 11, 2022. They return on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 and break for Easter on Friday, April 1 2022.
Summer term runs from from Tuesday, April 19, 2022 through to Friday, June 24, with pupils off on Monday, May 2, Thursday, May 5, and one of either Monday May 23, Monday, June 6, or Tuesday, June 14, depending on where in West Lothian you live.
In-service days for staff take place on: Monday, August 16, 2021, Tuesday September 21, 2021, Monday October 18, 2021; Wednesday January 5, 2022 and Thursday, May 5, 2022.
