Council and health board issue Covid plea to pub visitors in Newport after outbreak

Newport City Council has issued a plea to visitors to two of the city’s pubs this month, and to taxi drivers and delivery riders, to be extra vigilant over Covid-19 symptoms.

The council has been joined by the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Public Health Wales in issuing an appeal for anyone that visited the Pen and Wig and the Carpenters Arms on May 7, after a number of positive cases were identified relating to gatherings on that Friday evening.

Anyone who was at either pub from 5pm on the night, and who thinks they may be developing any symptoms of Covid, are advised to book a test as soon as possible.

The bodies also say they are concerned for taxi drivers and takeaway delivery riders in the city, after a small number of them tested positive.

Any visitor to the pubs, taxi drivers, or delivery riders who thinks they may be developing any Covid symptoms are advised to book a test as soon as possible and to isolate until the results of that test are known.
