Police officers were called to Reddown Road, near Coulsdon South train station, just before 9.30pm on Friday.

They found the victim, 59, suffering head injuries and stab wounds. Medics battled to save him but he was pronounced dead shortly after 10pm.

His next of kin have been informed.

A man, in his thirties, was arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. He complained of feeling unwell and was taken to hospital.
