'Couldn't have gone any better' - Tom Allan reflects on Newcastle United debut

Geordie youngster Tom Allan has reflected on his dream debut for Newcastle United.

The Cramlington 20-year-old is the latest Academy graduate to make his bow on the hallowed turf at St James’ Park after playing a part in the 4-1 win over Rochdale.

Allan was one of four Geordie players on the field by the end of the resounding win.

He said today: “To be honest, I don't think it could have gone any better.

“Maybe a goal, but I can't get too greedy!

“It was a night I'll remember for the rest of my life, I think, and to have my family in the stands just made it even better.”

Allan feels he is at a club that gives youngsters their chance.

He went on:  “A couple of us (from the under-23s) go up and down (to the first team), depending on the numbers but, a few of us have been in for, probably, two or three weeks now, so we've had a taste of it and it just makes you want to stick around and do as well as you can, and, hopefully, get more chances like tonight.”

Allan’s cross helped end Joelinton’s goal drought with a fine assist on 82 minutes.

He said: “The ball went into big Andy, and you know what he's going to do, he's always going to hold it up.

“So, I made the run off him, and he slid me down the line and I've just done my best to put it in for big Joe and, luckily, he's got on the end of it.”
