These spellers were so good, the spelling bee ran out of words. How do you compare?

For the first time in the competition's history, eight spellers have been named co-champion of the US Scripps National Spelling Bee after organisers ran out of words to challenge the remaining entrants.

This year, the entrants were so good that it took more than five-and-a-half hours to narrow the field from 50 spellers down to the final 16 that took part in the televised finale.

With eight spellers remaining after three hours of spelling in the prime-time finals, the pronouncer said Scripps only had enough words left to challenge them for three more rounds.

All eight spellers made it through the final three rounds to claim an eight-way championship tie, with each winner receiving the full winner's prize of $50,000 in cash.

It's an unprecedented end to the three-day competition that has never had more than a two-way tie for the title in its history.

All right, now it's your turn

Think you've got what it takes to earn a place on the stage? Below are real words that were used in this years' bee.

You're already starting at an advantage though. The real contestants aren't offered multiple choice like you are.
