Could we see a return to the big screen for Nottingham Forest great Brian Clough?

If Hollywood star Michael Sheen has his way, we could soon see the return of Nottingham Forest great Brian Clough on the big screen.

And it would be a film likely to go down very well with Reds fans.

Sheen played Clough in the popular 2009 movie The Damned United which charted his infamous 44-day spell at the helm of Leeds United.

This is Nottingham Forest's best XI of the season - and it might surprise you

And the Welsh actor has hinted he is keen to resume the role in a sequel.

On his Radio X show Chris Moyles praised Sheen’s portrayal of Clough, alongside his co-star Timothy Spall’s take on assistant Peter Taylor, arguing they should have won a BAFTA for their acting skills.

Sheen replied: “Well, we should do the second part, the Forest years.”

Clough’s short time at Elland Road came to an end in September 1974, and he took over at the City Ground just a few months later, in the following January.

The rest, as they say, is history, as he went on to oversee the most successful period in the club’s history, including those memorable back-to-back European Cup triumphs.

Sheen, who was publicising the Homeless World Cup in Wales, has been discussing the making of The Damned United and playing Clough.

The 50-year-old said: “When you are playing a real person, especially someone who is really familiar to people, you have to put a lot of work into that.

“Then kind of let go of that as you don’t want everyone watching the film to think you are doing an impersonation each scene.

“With David Frost (in Frost/Nixon) and Kenneth Williams (in Fantabulosa!) and Clough you are doing six months work in preparation.”
