Could Vikings G Mike Remmers be a cap casualty this offseason?

With free agency less than a month away, the question around the NFL is who could be potential cap casualties to free up spending money. One name to keep an eye on with the Minnesota Vikings is guard Mike Remmers.

Remmers signed a five-year, $30 million deal with $10.5 million guaranteed in 2017, but the Vikings could part ways with him for $1.8 million this offseason. If not, the Vikings owe him $5.75 million for the 2019 season.

The Vikings badly need help on the offensive line and part of that had to do with Remmers. He finished with a Pro Football Focus grade of 59.2 last season, a mark that ranked 48 of 77 eligible guards. It was more than an 11-point drop off from his 2017 season.

You can look at this two ways. The first is that the Vikings should let Remmers go to create space to sign a more valuable player at the spot, and/or add depth.

The second would be questioning on whether or not the Vikings are in any place to let go of offensive lineman considering just how bad they were last season. What if they aren’t able to replace Remmers with someone better?

We’ll see what happens.
