The decision went to VAR, but was not deemed serious foul play.
And on Saturday afternoon, the Blues were left wondering what someone would have to do to pick up a red card at Stamford Bridge.
With Frank Lampard's side two goals to the good against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham side, Cesar Azpilicueta slid into a challenge with Giovani Lo Celso.
And the Spurs midfielder trod on the the defender's shin, causing him a sizeable amount of pain.
Referee Michael Oliver did not initially give a free kick with the challenge following somewhat of a scramble, but the decision eventually went to VAR.
However, despite multiple angles showing that the Argentina international had indeed planted his foot on Azpilicueta's shin, it was not deemed as worth of a red card offence, with the midfielder free to continue as Spurs hoped to get back into the game.
Frank Lampard was furious on the sidelines, with the challenge occurring right in front of him, and hid mood was matched by Chelsea fans.
The Blues took the lead in the first half through striker Olivier Giroud, who was preferred to Michy Batshuayi with Tammy Abraham fit enough for just a place among the substitutes.
And Lampard's team extended the lead in the second half, with Marcos Alonso back in the team and scoring a beautiful low drive from outside the area.
Lampard's team were in a commanding position with a little over half an hour remaining of the match, which could prove crucial in deciding Champions League places come the end of the season.
