Could Urban Meyer join Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have already locked up the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and with it, the chance to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

But the Jags might also be looking for a new head coach after Sunday’s season finale, and they could be going after a big name from the college ranks to fill that position, as well.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that if the Jags indeed decide to part ways with head coach Doug Marrone after the 2020 season, former Ohio State and Florida head coach Urban Meyer could be their top target to replace him:

Meyer, who hasn’t coached since 2018 and is currently a college football analyst for Fox Sports, would be an intriguing choice for the Jaguars, to say the least. While he certainly enjoyed his share of success at the college level, Meyer has no NFL coaching experience.

The fact that the Jags won’t just have the No. 1 overall pick, but also the most cap space in the league this offseason, as well as five picks in the first two rounds of this year’s draft, could certainly be an attractive situation if Meyer indeed wants to consider ending his retirement.
