Could this be the most festive street in the whole of Lanarkshire?

Could this be Lanarkshire’s most festive street?

Well Motherwell’s Stirling Street is certainly a contender.

Each year neighbours join in spreading the Christmas cheer by going all-out with their outdoor decorations – and the pandemic hasn’t stopped them.

If anything, it’s given them a real reason to try and brighten things up.

One resident said: “It’s just great community spirit here and given the situation everyone is in at the minute, we all need a little Christmas cheer. We don’t have any council lights in Motherwell this year either so it gives us another reason to brighten things up.”

The residents had a socially-distanced switch-on with the homes looking fab.

Festive lights were a casualty of this year’s budget-setting process, which took place in February – a decision opposed by the Conservatives but backed by SNP and Labour councillors, citing financial pressures imposed by Westminster and the Scottish Government respectively.
