An ambitious plan to build sculptures of two giant humpback whales leaping out of the sea in Fife is taking a step forward.
A group called the Levenmouth Whale Project want to construct a 1000ft long pier, which will lead to the world's largest statues of breaching whales on the shore.
The whales would be illuminated at night and have music playing around them, creating a dramatic scene on the banks of the Forth.
They hope it will become a major tourist attraction similar to the Kelpies. The plan was first announced early in 2019 is moving forward with the formation of a new company.
It means the Levenmouth Whale Project will be able to receive donations and apply for funding, Fife Today reports.
As well as breaking a record for the largest breaching whale sculptures, it would create the first new pier in Scotland in over a century.
Those behind the project also want to create a visitor centre, education space, and "foodie destination restaurant."
It was inspired by a surge in whale sightings in the Forth during 2018.
They say: "Scotland’s first new pier for over a hundred years will lead to the world’s biggest sculpture of breaching whales, as well as incorporating a gourmet restaurant, visitor centre and tidal turbine."
