Getting on the night bus back over to Wirral after a late evening of partying in Liverpool City Centre was a rite of passage for many.
Often it was a continuation of the excitement and entertainment, with sing-a-longs and bust ups, and the bright, unforgiving lights revealing exactly where you had spilled that drink earlier.
People look back on their nighttime trips through the tunnel with fondness and funny memories now that the clubber's transport home no longer exists.

When we asked ECHO readers if they would like to see the return of a night bus service from Liverpool to Wirral, it was an overwhelming 'yes'.
Many even said they would be happy to pay a higher fare as they felt it would still be cheaper and easier then getting a taxi.
Nathan Gordon said: "Would happily pay £10 to get home through the Wallasey Tunnel on a night bus.
"Left a bar last week at 4am and didn't get a taxi until 5:30am."
Christine Charnock said: "Yes, because the trains stop before midnight and a taxi through the tunnel costs more than a night out. Yes to comment about having a conductor as well as a driver. Even charge a higher fare.
Ian Walker, along with others, spoke of the difficulty of trying to get a taxi over the water after a night out.
He added: "There are 24 hours buses in Liverpool... But yet nothing for the Wirral past 00:08.
"Even then that is only to Birkenhead bus station.
"There is demand for the services so why not put them on?
There were others who stated it wasn't just about getting clubbers home, but also the people who work in the hospitality sector.
Lynne Toner said: "Helps workers to get home and also saves having to get last train home which is always busy as trying to get a taxi is a nightmare."
Jo smith agreed and Trev Candeland said he has had to turn down jobs in town because he would be unable to get home late at night.
And he wasn't the only one, Alex Marshall said: "I have to turn down work based on the fact that I can't get home for less than 50% of my wages or I have to wait hours until the first public transport is available.
"Even if there was only a link to Birkenhead it would dramatically cut the cost of a taxi without the surcharge added on to any fare going through the tunnel."
And some have said it has put them off going out in Liverpool completely, Tom Edmonds said: "Not being able to get home has put me off going."
One person even owes a great debt to the after dark tunnel bus having found love on the double-decker.
Richard Williamson said: "If it wasn't for the tunnel bus I would never have met my partner 17 years ago!"
We put these arguments to Arriva and asked them if there was any chance of us seeing a night bus across the Mersey in the future.
A spokesperson told the ECHO: "Decisions to cease Cross River night bus services were made as a result of declining passenger demand and at this time, there are no plans to reinstate these services.
"However, we welcome all feedback regarding our services and timetables, this helps us to shape future plans for our network as well as understanding how we currently meet our customers' needs."
So perhaps if people keep asking we could see a return of the night bus and all its karaoke highlights.
