Could the Seahawks pursue UDFA receiver Jelani Irby?

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to add at least one wide receiver during the NFL Draft, which is set to begin in just five days.

However, with Doug Baldwin’s future in question, and Jaron Brown a potential cut candidate, the Seahawks will likely bring a handful of new receivers into camp in order to create a competition for their final few spots.

While they have plenty of options in the undrafted free agent pool, one player they could take a look at who has a rather unconventional path is Jelani Irby.

Irby last played arena football, where he starred for the Cincinnati Flex as a wide receiver and a defensive back, while also succeeding on the special team unit.

Irby played Division II football before transferring to the University of Kentucky, but issues with his collegiate credits rendered him ineligible before he could suit up.

In addition to his experience with the AFL, Irby has also coached high school football while continuing to work out in order to pursue his dream.

Irby is a bit on the small side, measuring five-foot-eleven and 180 pounds, but he has solid speed and an NFL pedigree as the cousin of former Seahawks Pro Bowl defensive back Shawn Springs.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll loves his overcoming adversity stories, and Irby is a player with a lot to prove.

Perhaps Seattle will give him the chance to do so.
