Could the Seahawks and Colts make a draft day trade?

The Seattle Seahawks are widely expected to trade down in the upcoming NFL draft, as a way to acquire more picks and in turn, more players to come into training camp and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Seahawks currently only have four picks in April’s draft: a first rounder, third rounder, fourth rounder and fifth rounder. It makes sense for them to trade their first round pick (no. 21 overall) in order to acquire a pick later in the first round, or even the second round, along with another pick or two in the draft.

Multiple teams have been connected to the Seahawks in this manner, including the Patriots, who may look to trade up and acquire a tight end after losing Rob Gronkowski to retirement.

Another team that makes sense as a trade partner is the Colts, who hold the 26th overall pick and may look to move up in order to lock down one of the premier edge defenders in this year’s draft class.

Chad Reuter’s latest column suggests the Seahawks trade their no. 21 overall pick to Indianapolis in exchange for pick no. 26 and their third round pick at no. 89 overall.

Many of the players that have been linked to Seattle’s first round pick, including Byron Murphy, Taylor Rapp, Brian Burns, Jachai Polite and Deionte Thompson, could still be around at pick 26, so Seattle would be able to acquire an additional pick while still getting the player they wanted all along.
