The Arizona Cardinals could make a splash in the offseason at wide receiver. Peter King believes the Houston Texans could trade star wideout DeAndre Hopkins.
He has $40 million left on his contract for three seasons and the Texans would only take on $3 million in dead money.
Could the Cardinals make a deal for him?
He has a cap hit of $12.5 million in 2020, $13.5 million in 2021 and $13.9 million in 2022.
What could a possible deal for Hopkins be?
What if the Cardinals sent Houston running back David Johnson and two draft picks, such as a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick?
The Texans could need a running back, as Carlos Hyde could leave in free agency. They need draft capital. The Cardinals need a top receiver.
They could draft CeeDee Lamb in the first round, whom Cardinals general manager Steve Keim has compared to Hopkins. Why not get the actual Hopkins?
Of course, then the Cardinals would only have four selections in the draft.
But they would have saved more than $8 million in cap space in dealing Johnson, meaning acquiring Hopkins would only cost about $4.5 million more in cap space than the Cardinals now have.
Could the Cardinals make that deal? Would the Texans be smart in taking it?
