Could TE Darren Waller quickly become a favorite of QB Derek Carr?

Heading into training camp, all eyes are on the Derek Carr-Antonio Brown connection and for a good reason. The Raiders traded away two draft picks to acquire the four-time All-Pro receiver. However, could another player on the roster quickly become a favorite of Carr?

One player to monitor as camp begins is Darren Waller, who is making the transition from wide receiver to tight end. Luckily for Waller, Carr has had a ton of success targeting tight ends throughout his career.

According to Pro Football Focus, Carr was at his best in 2018 when he was throwing to tight ends as he posted a passer rating of 98.2. Given that Jared Cook is no longer on the roster, Waller is the odds-on favorite to lead the tight end in receptions.

Waller’s development will be one of the biggest stories of training camp for the Raiders. If he can find a rhythm with Carr, look for the former Georgia Tech receiver to put up career numbers in Oakland.
