Could take 'more than 1 week' to restore power in Chiba, minister says

Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Isshu Sugawara said Friday that restoring power after the massive outage triggered by Typhoon No. 15 would take "within a day or two in most cases, but more than one week [from Friday] in other places."

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. will announce details of the plan on Friday afternoon, Sugawara said at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting.

He also announced that the ministry has set up a task force to deal with the power outage.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said at an informal meeting of ministers on Friday morning that the government should do all it can to end the blackouts.

Many still suffering

Due to a massive power outage in Chiba Prefecture, TEPCO Power Grid Inc. announced Friday that about 198,600 households in Tateyama, Minamiboso and other cities were still without power as of 10 a.m.
