Could star UGA football DB Richard LeCounte play basketball in 2019-2020?

It is fairly common to see athletes, including football players who commit to Georgia, play multiple sports in high school and throughout their childhood. However, the days of multi-sport athletes at the professonional and even collegiate levels seem to be fading away as time goes by.

Aside from Kyler Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, it is rare to see an athlete in today’s world excel so much in multiple sports.

With the proven success of Murray and countless athletes of the past however, there’s little to no reason not to believe Georgia’s Richard LeCounte could join the basketball team this winter once football concludes.

The rising junior played both sports for Liberty County High School in Riceboro, Georgia, but ultimately chose football as his priority, given he was the No. 25 overall player in the nation and a five-star for the 2015 class.

With that being said, LeCounte has been seen conditioning with Coach Crean and the Bulldog basketball team this summer and who’s to say he can’t join the group once football concludes?

UGA Hoops Blog ran a poll on the matter, and it’s safe to say Bulldog fans and players wouldn’t mind the addition of LeCounte to the team.

A quick dusting of the high school highlight reel is all you need to see in order to believe in LeCounte’s basketball abilities.

Though the chances of LeCounte playing both sports this season in Athens may seem slim, it’s easy to think Crean would offer him a roster spot if anything sticks.

After all, what’s not to like about an athletic, hard-working and self-motivated player who averaged 16.4 points per game in high school?
