Could RB Theo Riddick be an option for the Texans?

Running backs Lamar Miller and D’Onta Foreman are the Houston Texans’ one-two punch to start the 2019 season. However, if the club were looking to add a third, recently released Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick would be an excellent option.

Houston has long needed an excellent pass-catcher out of the back field that can create separation on third-and-long. The former Detroit Lion is just the player the Texans need.

At age 28, Riddick would be a very cap friendly signing as well. Making just a little over $3 million last season with the Lions, the Texans could easily sign him to a one year prove type deal that they have shown to do in the past.

Last season Riddick has 61 receptions and 384 receiving yards with 171 yards rushing. This would be very good production that the Texans would need if they want to fight for a playoff spot in 2019.

For his career, Riddick has 1,023 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. Through the air 2,238 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns coming from passes. Texans franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson would have the perfect safety valve from dumping off passes when the offensive line breaks down.

Signing Riddick may not happen but if it were, the Texans would have a very solid running back group going into 2019.
