Could Ravens DE Matthew Judon be a trade target for Giants?

The new look New York Giants are certainly going to seek to amp up their pass rush this off season by many means possible. With Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young appearing to be just out of their grasp in the upcoming NFL Draft, general manager Dave Gettleman might have to get creative to bring in top talent.

As it turns out, there may be some options out there beyond just free agency and the draft.

From Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Ravens defensive end Matthew Judon is a candidate for Baltimore’s franchise tag and trade inquiries from other teams, league sources tell ESPN, potentially continuing the recent trend of offseason trades featuring high-profile pass rushers.

Other teams have noticed the impacts that Dee Ford and Frank Clark have had in San Francisco and Kansas City, respectively, and a contending team could try to pry Judon loose from the Ravens.

The 27-year-old Judon was a fifth-round pick out of Grand Valley State back in 2016 and had a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2019 en route to being named to his first Pro Bowl.

The Ravens have intimated that they would love to keep Judon but many insiders believe they could end up applying the franchise tag to him and then trading him.

That’s where the Giants would come in. Should they pull off a deal for Judon they would likely rip up the franchise tag deal — which for a linebacker was in the excess of $15.4 million for one season in 2019 — and sign him long term.
