Could Posh fill Paula's American Idol boots?

For Posh and Becks watchers it has always been David Beckham who is considered the talented one, and Victoria the hanger-on. But star status is a fickle business. Now, while the former England captain is regularly booed off the pitch with LA Galaxy, the former Spice Girl is to appear on one of the world's biggest shows, American Idol.

She is due to be a guest in at least two episodes, and there are rumours she will replace the singer Paula Abdul as a judge in the talent competition. (The Himalayan Times followed up the story, so why not the Guardian?) "With sadness in my heart I've decided not to return to Idol," Abdul said on Twitter.

There's been no word yet from Posh. But a source told the Mirror: "Victoria is hugely flattered as this is one of the highest-profile gigs in America. It really is a big deal. Victoria's profile Stateside has never been higher. Network bosses would love to give her the job full-time and it looks like it's there for her if she wants it."

If she does take the job, what will her on-screen relationship be like with fellow judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson? Cowell's tempestuous relationship with Abdul was seen as one of the reasons for the popularity of the show.

Does Posh have what it takes to pass judgment on the abilities of wannabe stars? Has the Briton got talent?
