Amid the continuing sales gloom and profits declines in the US newspaper industry, a ray of light. Though still only a small proportion of revenues, the growth of online advertising appears to be picking up speed. That's welcome news for the troubled Tribune group, which saw online revenue grow 27% in the second quarter. It expects online advertising to make up between 12 to 15% of its total newspaper revenues by 2010. Two other big players, Gannett and McClatchy, also point to fast growth in online revenues. But many analysts remain skeptical about ad retention in the face of competition internet-only destinations such as Yahoo and Craigslist. (Via Business News: CBSnews.com)
