Could Michigan RB Karan Higdon be the Texans’ downhill ball carrier?

The Houston Texans may not have added a running back in the draft as many expected, but by adding former Michigan back Karan Higdon in free agency they may have found their replacement for Alfred Blue.

The Texans Wire spoke to Michigan running backs coach Jay Harbaugh who described Higdon as “a true ball carrier downhill.”

“His bread and butter as a player is running gap schemes type of runs, power, counter, and being able to get the ball in his hands and hit the holes,” said Harbaugh. “I think he’ll probably surprise some people with what he can do.”

A back with 27 rushing touchdowns to his name through four years as a Wolverine, Harbaugh praised Higdon’s growth whilst in Michigan.

“He’s a guy who really got a lot better at his time in Michigan,” said Harbaugh. “Really, last season he wasn’t really 100 percent for the whole season but he was able to become a guy who didn’t really have any glaring weaknesses. He was a really tough, well-rounded, effective player.”

Higdon was described by Harbaugh as a; “Great dude, he’s a guy who’s always just looking to help his teammates. He’s an unselfish guy, good energy, really positive outlook. ” Coach then went on to call Higdon “a pleasure to be around.”

Houston will be hoping that Higdon can work his way into their running back group and potentially become the star back they have yet to find.
